Electronic Mail Policy 3521.5

Butte County Office of Education considers electronic mail a powerful tool for increasing productivity, communication and professional growth and provides an electronic mail system, including workstations, file serving computers, applications software, computer networks and Internet connections, for the use of its own employees and the employees of client school districts.  To avoid misuse of the system and protect against loss of public assets to legal actions, Butte County Office of Education also declares certain conditions and limitations on the use of its electronic mail.

Messages composed, transmitted, received and stored in Butte County Office of Education electronic mail facilities are the property of Butte County Office of Education and will be monitored for legitimate reasons.  Electronic mail messages are public records that can be used as evidence in courts of law.  Employees have no reasonable expectation of privacy when using Butte County Office of Education electronic mail. Dissemination of sexually explicit, racially offensive, libelous, abusive or other material inappropriate to a professional environment is forbidden.
