Outlook Calendar

By Teresa Lightle- Computer Training Coordinator

Viewing Another's Calendar

In the last issue of "Tech Tips," I introduced how to set permissions on your Outlook calendar. Once you are given permission to view someone's calendar, you can view it online by following these steps.

  • Open your Microsoft Outlook calendar

  • Choose File in the Menu bar then Open

  • In Outlook 97, choose "Server Folder"

  • In Outlook 2000, the option is "Other Users Folder"

  • In both programs this will bring up a small window

The Name...button will take you to the Global Address List where you can locate the name of the person whose calendar you wish to view.

  • Once the user's name appears, Click OK

  • The specified users calendar will now appear on top of your calendar.

  • Use the title bar (blue bar at the top of the window) to identify the calendar.

If a message appears saying unable to view this folder, it means that the person who owns the account has not given you permission to view the calendar. Contact that person and request permission to view his/her calendar.

Depending upon what permissions you have been assigned, you may be able to edit, create or just view this person's calendar.

"Meta Search Engines"

Meta Search Engines  are different from regular search engines in that they they can search multiple search engines at the same time. While this may sound like the best option all of the time, it can be overwhelming for simple search topics.  It is best to use a Meta Search Engine when you cannot find information using a regular search engine or when you are searching for a very specialized or narrow topic.

Examples of Good Meta Search Engines are:

http://www.debriefing.com/             Uses 10 search engines including AOL and MSN

http://www.search.com/                  Uses 9 other engines including Sprinks and LookSmart

http://www.metacrawler.com/          One of the oldest Meta Search Engines online

http://www.dogpile.com/index.gsp    My Personal Favorite

http://www.mamma.com/                 Advertised as the Mother of All Search Engines

http://www.surfwax.com/                Relatively New

http://www.ixquick.com/                Ability to search in multiple languages

This is just a short list of searching tools available. Really interested, do a search on "search engines'
