![]() May 2006 Using an LCD Projector for PowerPoint Presentations By Teresa Lightle- Technology Coordinator Printable Version (pdf) LCD Projectors are becoming common place in classrooms and boardrooms, but getting them to work when you need them can be frustrating. In this article I will address some of the most frequently asked questions about setting up and using an LCD projector for presentations. What exactly do I need to be able to get my presentation on the "Big Screen"? You will need the following items:
Hook Up and Connection
Troubleshooting I see the presentation on my laptop screen, but it does not project through the projector.
As you can see in the example below, the LCD/CRT is in blue below the F3 key. This indicates that in order to activate this function the user will need to hold down the Fn key in the lower left corner, and the F3 key at the same time.
The first time the user activates this key combination, the computer image will shift from the laptop monitor to the LCD projector. If the user hits this combination again, the image should show in both locations. Laptop Model and Key Combinations
I am using PowerPoint and my video will play in PowerPoint, but all I see on the screen is a black box.
- Right click anywhere on the desktop. - Choose Properties - Select the “Settings” tab
- Use the sliding scale in the screen resolution box
to move - Click on the Apply button. I can’t hear the sound from my Power Point Presentation
Other helpful hints for LCD presentations
Finishing Up After you have completed your presentation, use the remote to turn off the LCD projector. The fan will continue to run, DO NOT UNPLUG until the fan has turned itself off. Doing so can cause the projector to overheat and damage the motor. Once the projector has shut down, you may unplug and return the projector to the case. Be sure to gather the remote, VGA and power cables, so you are ready for your next Presentation.
