![]() October 2003 Announcement - the new training schedule is out for both teachers and clerical! Using the Auto Text Feature in Word By Teresa Lightle- Technology Coordinator Printable Version (pdf) If you have worked in MS Word for any period of time you
might have noticed those little yellow flags that pop up when
you are keying the day of the week, the month or sincerely. The feature used to create these flags is called Auto Text. Auto Text is a useful tool for common long names, titles and signature lines. Auto Text can be used to insert these items and will take on the spacing and formatting including bold, justification, fonts and color. While in a Microsoft Word document, create the item you wish to create the AutoText. Sincerely,
Michelle John,
Principal Select the entire signature line beginning with Sincerely. Click on Insert in the menu bar and choose Auto Text, a sub menu will appear, click on New.
This dialogue box will appear. You must decide on a name for your Auto Text . Select a name that is unique, one word, at least 4 letters long. You can even choose a name that will help you remember what the entry is such as a signature or a letterhead. Click on OK. When you wish to execute the Auto text entry simply begin keying the word you named your entry:
As I began to key signature after the fourth letter the flag appeared. To complete the entry hit the Enter key on the keyboard and the signature lines will appear. You can create as many Auto Text entries as you need. To view a list of all the Auto Text entries currently installed on your machine:
**Nothing will appear on your document screen, but the entries will be printing out on your printer. On the printed copy, the item in bold is the text you need to key to apply the Auto Text entry below it. For Questions or Comments about this newsletter please contact: tlightle@bcoe.org |
