Just For Kids BSSP supports wellness for all kids in its programs, both in the classroom and at home. Check the links below for fun wellness tools and activities for kids of all ages, both at home and in the classroom. Healthy Habits for Kids - English Healthy Habits for Kids - Spanish version KICK - Kids in Charge of Kalories Smile Squad - Defenders of Dental Health Eye Didn't Know That - for kids Eye Didn't Know That - Teachers' Lounge Fruit, Vegetable and Physical Activity Toolbox for Community Educators: Fruit, Vegetable, and Physical Activity Toolbox for Community Educators is a tool kit complete with nutrition and physical activity lessons, handouts, poster, produce guide, playing cards, media disc, discussion guide, small pamphlets, and learning tools. This resource which is available in both English and Spanish was created by the Network for a Healthy California for SNAP-Ed providers to help teach children about the importance of eating fruits and vegetable and getting plenty of physical activity. The lessons are well organized and include a variety of topics such as grocery shopping, recipe preparation, and healthy eating on the go. Instant Recess DVD and Users' Guide: Instant Recess, created by Network for a Healthy California, is a DVD geared for children aged 7-12. It is a 15 minute DVD which includes exercises that can be done anywhere. The exercises do not require any equipment and are done at a slow pace so anyone can participate. Along with the DVD, a small booklet for educators is included that provides information and tips on exercise, hydration, and how to use the DVD effectively. Music & Movement Nutrition in Action: Music & Movement created by Jenny Steinhaus, M.S, L.N, is a curriculum for elementary-aged children which includes 8 lessons that incorporate music with physical activity. Each lesson includes a sit-down activity in the form of arts and crafts, and a movement activity that is paired with music. Each lesson features a print-ready hand outs which support the lesson's learning objectives. Nutrition Detectives: Nutrition Detectives is a DVD geared towards elementary-aged school children. Created by David Katz, M.D, this curriculum teaches children the importance of food labels and how to read them. The DVD is rich with animation and entertaining games, and features a question/answer section toward the end which explains how the DVD can be used effectively with children. Pyramid Plus: Real life nutrition for teens: Pyramid Plus is a curriculum to help motivate teens to make healthy nutrition choices. Created by the Oregon Dairy Council, this resource includes 9 lessons and a CD with supporting materials. Each lesson is thoroughly explained for educators and includes tips and printable worksheets which are ready to use. The lessons are very diverse and cover topics such as nutrient rich foods to body acceptance Secrets of Feeding a Healthy Family: How to Eat, How to Raise Good Eaters, How to Cook: The Secrets of Feeding a Healthy Family is a book written to bring back the joy of eating and cooking. This book written by Ellyn Satter has thirteen chapters which address topics of cooking, attitudes about food, and eating behaviors. The author also includes recipes that could be utilized to enhance SNAP-Ed activities. Secrets of Feeding a Healthy Family is written in a gentle, positive and supportive tone, making it pleasurable to read. For more information
