FRIDAY, April 7, 2017

There were 73 students representing 39 Butte County Schools. This was an oral Spelling Bee with 2 students advancing to the California State Spelling Bee Competition at the San Joaquin County Office of Education on May 13, 2017 in Stockton.

The Elementary Spelling Bee took approximately three hours and twenty minutes with ­­preferred being the challenging misspelled word and sponsor being the last correctly spelled word.  Congratulations to:

Winner:  Jamieson Sparkman – 6th Grade
School:   Ophir Elementary School / Oroville City Elementary School District

Runner Up: Madalyn Robertson – 5th Grade
School:  Stanford Avenue Elementary School / Oroville City Elementary School District


JUNIOR HIGH SPELLING BEE (Grades 7-9) FRIDAY, April 7, 2017
There were 24 students representing 11 Butte County Schools. This was a written Spelling Bee with 2 students advancing to the California State Spelling Bee Competition at Miller Creek School, San Rafael, May 6, 2017.

The Junior High Spelling Bee took approximately one hour, with officious being the challenging misspelled word and triumphant being the last correctly spelled word.  Congratulations to:

Winner: Christian Gisborne – 8th Grade          
School:  Notre Dame School - Chico       

Runner Up: John Rollo – 8th Grade
School:  Durham Intermediate School / Durham Unified School District
