After School Programs Goals

To assist students in achieving academic success through extended learning opportunities . . .
  • Provide educational, enrichment and recreational opportunities to improve student skills and success in academics (primarily reading and math),  health, safety, arts, recreation, entrepreneurial ventures, and technology.
  • Build mentor capacity in students and the community.
  • Provide a safe place for children after school.
  • Provide positive, structured, adult supervision.
  • Teach children ways of resolving conflicts.
  • Provide tutoring and homework assistance.
  • Provide opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Develop school to career opportunities.

What will After School Programs do to help students academically?

After School Programs (ASPs) seeks to improve the educational success of students through extended learning opportunities.

To achieve this goal, ASPs:

  • Serve students through academic assistance (homework clubs, cross-age tutoring, enrichment classes, etc.).  Integrate academic and technology enrichment in literacy, arts, math, and science activities.
  • Work with students to complete student-selected community service activities culminating in presentations (plays, multi-media productions, exhibits) demonstrating learning to other students, parents, and the community.
  • Host events for students, parents and community members where students present products or demonstrate skills relating to their after-school programs.
