English Language Development
Overview
Through Butte County Office of Education, schools and districts
have the unique opportunity to benefit from direct, deliberate
support that is customized to individual district needs.
Holly Ahmadi, ELD Coordinator for Butte County Office of
Education, offers various services that aid schools and
districts in meeting their goals for this unique population.
Curriculum Support
Butte County Office of Education provides schools and
districts with curriculum support in the areas of all core
instruction subjects and ELD teaching for English learners.
We offer support for intervention materials and are available to
assist schools with the implementation of K-12 curriculum and
resources for English learners. We provide program
evaluation services that allow schools and districts to analyze
their EL program effectiveness and offer feedback regarding
action steps to increase EL student achievement.
Network
Attend one of our ELD Network Meetings where teachers and
administrators from around the county and the region come to
hear the latest information regarding state and federal ELD
policy.

CELDT (California English Language Development
Test)
The purpose of the CELDT is to identify new students who are
English Learners, determine their level of English proficiency,
and annually assess their progress toward becoming fluent
English proficient. The CELDT covers four skills areas:
listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. It is
administered in grades K-12. Butte County Office of Education
offers the following:
- data analysis
- training for site test administrators
- staff development targeted to instruction at individual CELDT levels
Title III
- Aid schools in the use of the English Learner Subgroup
Self-Assessment (ELSSA) document designed to help schools
prepare or make changes in their LEA Plan
- Offer program analysis at their site level using the EL-SLT
(English Learner Site Level Tool)
- Data analysis and support for schools working to meet
AMAO's
- Intense support for districts that are required to create
the Title III Year 4 Action Plan
ELD/SDAIE SB 1292 Training for DSC, CTE and ROP
Teachers
Butte County Office of Education offers the 45-hour EL
authorization training required for DSC and ROP teachers.
This training takes place over 7 days and can be adapted to meet
district individual schedules. Please contact our office
for more information.
CTEL Test Preparation for Teachers Needing EL
Authorization
California teachers that require EL authorization are
now mandated to take the California Teachers of English Learners
Test (CTEL). Butte County Office of Education offers a
60-hour preparation class for this assessment which informs
teachers as to the subject matter of the exam and outlines test
taking strategies to support teachers in this endeavor.
