History Course Models
The course models that appear on this site are a resource designed to assist teachers in implementing the State Board of Education adopted History-Social Science Content Standards and Framework. In addition to serving as a resource for teachers or developers of local curricula, the models may also be used to plan topics and select resources for professional development. The many and varied instructional resources identified should be helpful to librarians and directors of media centers as school collections are augmented.

Curriculum Frameworks & Instructional Resources
A site by the California Department of Education. Curriculum frameworks are the blueprints for implementing the content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education. Frameworks are developed by the Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission, which also reviews and recommends textbooks and other instructional materials to be adopted by the State Board.

This site of the U.S. Census Bureau is a convenient source for population, housing, economic, and geographic data based on surveys of information.  Users may compare data for different geographic areas.  It also features Reference Maps where users can locate states, counties, urban areas, school districts, places, zip codes, census tracts, census blocks, and other Census geographies.

Columbia Guide to Online Style
Presents a guide to locating, translating, and using the elements of citation for both a humanities style (i.e., MLA and Chicago) and a scientific style (APA and CBE) for electronically-accessed sources. The unique element approach used makes this a useful reference book for citing electronic sources regardless of the specific bibliographic style you may be required to use.

Endangered Species
A site of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Through the Listing Program, the Service determines whether to add a species to the Federal lists of endangered and threatened wildlife and plants.

Favorite Poem Project
Robert Pinsky, the 39th Poet Laureate of the United States, founded the Favorite Poem Project shortly after the Library of Congress appointed him to the post in 1997.  Since its launch, the Favorite Poem Project has been dedicated to celebrating, documenting and promoting poetry's role in Americans' lives.  This exceptional collection of 50 short video documentaries showcases individual Americans reading and speaking personally about poems they love.  In addition to creating these collections, the Favorite Poem Project has been dedicated to strengthening communities through the art of poetry and has developed successful programs for libraries, communities, and schools.

Picturing the Century:  One Hundred Years of Photography from the National Archives
This exhibit of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) commemorates the 20th Century with photographs.  Studying photographs helps us imagine what it was like when the first airplane took off, when a landing craft ramp fell open on D-day, or when the first man stepped onto the Moon.  The photographs capture the changes of the last one hundred years.  They depict the mundane and high political drama, society's failings and triumphs, war's ugliness and its bravery.
