Program
Hearthstone school is a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
accredited Kindergarten through 12th grade homeschool program. Parents/students meet with their
teacher every 2-3 weeks to develop and monitor the student's
individualized learning plan. High school credits earned
through Hearthstone are transferable to other schools. A
high school diploma will be issued upon successful completion of
all graduation requirements.

Eligibility
in order to participate in Hearthstone School, the student
must meet the following requirements.
- The student and parent must choose this alternative.
- The student must be eligible for enrollment in grades
Kindergarten through 12.
- The student must reside in Butte or an adjacent county.
Support Services
As participants in
the Butte County Office of Education's Hearthstone School,
families realize the following advantages:

standards-aligned and state adopted curriculum.

County Office of Education resources.

guidance from a certificated teacher.

supplemental curriculum materials.

opportunities for parents.

Participation in
organized field trips and activities.

Annual STAR
testing.

Participation in
enrichment classes.

Special
education teachers who provide services for students with
resource and mild to moderate disabilities.
Cost
There is no cost to
participants in this program. Hearthstone School is
authorized by the California Administrative Code, Chapter 15,
and the California Education Code, sections 51745, 51746, 51747,
51748, and 51749. As a public school, funding is
through the state of California.
Enrollment
Students must attend
an orientation with a parent or legal guardian in order to begin
the enrollment process. Orientations are held throughout each month as long as there
are program openings. The orientation covers program
procedures, policies, activities, fieldtrips, classes, etc.,
followed by the opportunity to ask specific questions about
