Here are some resources Hearthstone families can use to enhance their learning experience.

Study Island

Hearthstone now has access to a great web-based tutoring program called Study Island.  Since Study Island is completely web-based, students can access it from any computer with an Internet connection and a standard web browser.  Results from student study sessions are recorded and made available to the teachers.  The program is divided into sections based on subject (math, reading, etc.).  Each section is made up of 10 to 25 topics, which contain about 20 to 25 questions each.  Most topics are accompanied by a lesson, which includes some brief information about the material covered by the questions in the topics.  To get started, talk to your teacher or the Hearthstone office to get your student’s user name and password.  

Hearthstone Family Network

An on-line networking group has been created for Hearthstone families to set up social events, play days, study groups or just keep in touch.  In order to keep this a private group, families that would like to join must be invited. If interested please contact the group moderator, Susan Beeler  (534-1037).

This site has been around for a while, but continues to provide outstanding information.  Also a useful site for the teachable moments when a child asks “How does…?”

This site is sponsored by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).  It includes photo gallery, history, current and past explorations along with educational links and a database of lesson plans.
