Our Departments & Services Each department of the Butte County Office of Education serves a specific purpose to enhance the educational advancement of students or support the operational goals of the school districts. Administrative Services Administrative Services is responsible for financial management and fiscal accountability of the Butte County Office of Education and local school districts. Personnel Services, Maintenance and Operations, and Information Technology Services are also provided. Services include:
California Mini-Corps The California Mini-Corps provides direct, supplemental services to migrant children and their families. The program employs college students with rural migrant backgrounds to serve as teacher assistants, and to act as role models for migrant children. The Mini-Corps program operates statewide at twenty universities and colleges. The services to migrant students are provided during the regular school year and in the summer in cooperation with 18 regional programs in California.
Educational Support Services The Educational Support Services Department (ESS) works in collaboration with the 14 school districts in Butte County to meet two important goals: to improve student academic achievement in reading, writing and mathematics; and to provide safe and healthy learning environments. ESS focuses on meeting the Butte County Office of Education goal: "Committed to the success of every student and the excellence of every educator."ESS is responsible for tracking national and statewide education policy decisions that affect curriculum, instruction, health and safety, data, assessment, accountability, technology, early childhood, and after school programs then providing technical assistance and professional development to inform and assist educators. ESS offers direct assistance over a sustained period of time to those schools facing the greatest challenges; develops programs in response to grant opportunities; establishes forums to foster communication and share information; delivers online and face-to-face professional development; provides online, print and audiovisual learning resources; disseminates timely information about current education issues; operates schools for young children; conducts after school programs; and offers technical assistance and professional development throughout Northern California to support technology, after school programs, and reading instruction. ESS is comprised of approximately 300 management, early childhood, clerical, and after school employees. The guiding purpose of public education remains to prepare students to succeed in their careers and higher education, to contribute as citizens, and to develop an appreciation of culture. ESS is committed to joining with the local school districts to utilize every new resource available and to understand each new approach to learning in the collaborative effort to assist the students in our schools. Grant Programs Development and Administration Instructional Resource Center (IRC) Technology in Curriculum Migrant Education Migrant Education is a federally funded program (E.C.I.A., Chapter I, P.L. 97-35) designed to provide supplementary educational and support services to identified migrant students. Currently Region II has a cumulative enrollment of approximately 18,000 students (ages 3-21) in a 19-county area in Northern California.
Student Programs and Services Student Programs and Services provides direct services to assist students and to see that all children in Butte County receive appropriate educational services through alternative programs, educational services for the disabled, counseling, vocational training, juvenile court and community schooling, independent study and charter schools. This is accomplished by direct operation of special education classes for children 0-22 years of age who meet the federal, state and local criteria, services for those students who find it difficult to achieve their educational goals in a normal public school environment, and services for those students who require additional disciplinary support. Student Programs and Services includes partnerships that expand human, financial and program services with schools, public and private agencies.
SELPA The fourteen school districts within Butte County have joined together with the Butte County Office of Education to form a Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The Butte County Office of Education is the Administrative Agency for the SELPA. The SELPA provides planning and services for all children, 0-21 years of age, residing in Butte County.
BSSP - JPA The Butte Schools Self-Funded Programs JPA was formed in 1982 to self-insure our area schools for medical, dental, and vision services. |
