Taking Center Stage—Act II (TCSII) The Road Show

A Professional Learning Opportunity
for Middle Grades District and
School Leadership Teams

Tuesday, April 8, 2008
8:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.

The Event

Join the Butte County Office of Education (BCOE) and the California Department of Education (CDE) for a professional development opportunity tailored specifically for district and middle grades leadership teams. The training will consist of two components. The Road Show begins with a live Webcast featuring California’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction, a national authority on achievement data, and a well known expert on middle grades education. The second half of the event is comprised of professional learning activities to introduce the CDE’s new Web portal—TCSII—and its 12 recommendations for middle grades success.

The Road Show is designed to help you create the conditions at your school to ensure success and close the achievement gap for your middle grades students. The Webcast portion of the event will feature:

  • Jack O’Connell, California’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction;
  • Russlynn Ali, executive director for the education non-profit Education Trust-West, author, and authority on achievement gap data; and
  • Dr. Debbie Silver, award winning educator with 30 years experience as a classroom teacher, author, and expert on differentiated instruction for middle grades students.

Immediately following the Webcast, an interactive, facilitated session using The Road Show CD will introduce participants to the knowledge, inspiration, and ideas that comprise TCSII, including:

  • A brief history of how TCSII evolved in response to the needs of students and educators.
  • TCSII’s easy-to-use features designed with the busy middle grades educator in mind.
  • The 12 recommendations and the organizational structure that serve as TCSII’s foundation.
  • Exploration of a specific topic using TCSII’s 12 recommendations and resources.
Your Team

The Road Show is designed specifically for district and school leadership (DSL) teams of six. The Butte County Office of Education and CDE recommend your team ideally include (1) one district representative; (2) the school principal; and (3) four other leadership team members from the school (teachers, counselors, assistant principal). DSL teams will leave the training with a copy of TCSII: The Road Show CD and access to the archived version of the Webcast, enabling teams to provide professional learning activities to their entire school staff.

The Road Show will be presented at the following location:
