California Mini-Corps Leaders Kick-Off New Year with Focus on Accountability

Superintendent Taylor kicked off the meeting with a discussion on Local Control Accountability Plans and the opportunities that lie ahead for Mini-Corps leaders. “With our 46 year history of serving Migrant Students we can assist districts throughout California with Science Technology Engineering Math [STEM] career pathways and tutoring programs for English Language Learners.” said Mr. Taylor. Mini-Corps Coordinators Eva and Lorena Silva from the Salinas and Monterey area joined the Superintendent and discussed how they are working with districts in their area on providing STEM opportunities for children. On Tuesday, Holly Harding, English Language Development Administrator from Butte County Office of Education, led a training on English Language Development/English Language Arts standards and Common Core that was well received. Juana Zamora, Assistant Superintendent, added: "We continue to provide cutting edge staff development and uphold our timeless mission statement and program goals of increasing the academic achievement of migrant students and developing bilingual educators.  The Mini-Corps Coordinators meeting also will focus on last year’s student and program data and the use of iPads throughout their system.
