Ag. Equipment Operation, Maintenance and Construction

This one year class is designed to provide students with employability skills in the areas of agriculture equipment operation/maintenance and related construction.  Students will learn the repair and routine maintenance and operation of light/heavy duty trucks, track-layers, wheeled tractors, forklifts, backhoes, graders, dump-trucks and construction equipment.  Practical skills and techniques in safe operation, tool usage, hydraulics, standard maintenance and minor repair will be emphasized.  Students will also learn basic construction skills in framing and concrete work.

Employment and Careers:
  • Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Truck and Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • Maintenance Mechanic
  • Farm Equipment Mechanic
  • Construction Laborer
Areas of Study:
  • Employability skills - (job application, resumé and interviewing)
  • Knowledge of job and labor market trends
  • Safe equipment operating practices
  • Proper lubrication, service and inspection of all machinery
  • Minor adjustments and repairs using appropriate operator's manual
  • Pre-start check, start/stop diesel and gas equipment
  • Knowledge of common construction practices used in site preparation, concrete and framing

 

You can earn: A Certificate of Proficiency, high school and Butte College credits.

How to Enroll for Ag. Equipment Operation/Maintenance & Construction:

  • High School Students:  You need to be at least 16 years old and see your counselor or call ROP at 879-7457.

Fees: There is no cost for high school students.

Location: Las Plumas High School

Duration: This class meets at Las Plumas High School two hours daily for two semesters and begins in the fall.
