Animal and Veterinary Careers

This class provides the training needed to work in animal & veterinary careers including surgical assisting, anesthesia, nursing, laboratory testing, reception, office procedures and restraint of small animals.  Students develop skills in animal care and general veterinary clinic procedures.  Instruction will include animal behavior, anatomy, sanitation, nutrition, disease, medical terminology and laboratory work.  Internships may include veterinary clinic, pet store, grooming parlor, ranches or animal trainers.

Special Considerations:

Recommended high school courses include math, science and biology.
Animal-related experience is helpful, but not required.
 

You Can Earn: Certificate of Proficiency, high school credits and Yuba College credits.

  • High School Students: Seniors may apply by seeing your counselor or call ROP at (530) 879-7457.

Fees:

  • High School Students: There is no cost for high school students.

Location: Chico ROP Center

Duration: This class meets at the ROP Center (Chico) three hours daily in the morning for two semesters and begins in August.
