Diversified Occupations

The Diversified Occupations Program is designed to assist in successfully transitioning students with disabilities from school to the world of work.  All students receive instruction in the core skill area and job specific areas.  Training takes place in classroom and community classroom sites.  Students will receive training at one or more businesses for paid or non-paid experiences.  Students gain hands-on experience in one or more of the following work areas:

Employment & Careers:
  • Landscape Maintenance
  • Greenhouse Nursery
  • Food Services
  • Assembly/Production
  • Retail Sales
  • Wood Shop
  • Landscaping
  • Light Construction

Course Objectives:
 

  • With assistance, complete an employment application and resume

  • Work with others using desirable work habits, attitudes and direction

  • Identify and demonstrate basic job retention skills

  • Evaluate his/her potential for employment from on -the-job experience

  • With assistance, utilize avenues of seeking and evaluating employment opportunities

  • Practice safe work habits

 

 

 

 

 


 

  • Adhere to work environment policies and follow directions

  • Demonstrate proper personal appearance, attitude and courtesy

  • Pass a basic job related vocabulary and comprehension test

  • Complete a vocational skills and interest inventory

  • Develop positive self-esteem

  • Develop and evaluate personal goals

  • Organize a given job task into proper sequence for successful completion

How to Enroll for Diversified Occupations:

  • High School Students: Students must be 16 years old or older and have a referral made directly to the course instructor. Students will visit the program and then the instructor will attend the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meeting to discuss appropriateness and enrollment opportunities.

Fees: There is no cost for high school students.

Location: Chico High School, Las Plumas High School, Paradise High School & Pleasant Valley High School

Duration: This two-semester class meets Monday through Friday and begins in the fall.
