Registered Dental Assistant

In this nine month course, students will learn the registered dental assistant duties and be prepared to take the state board examination. The students learn the use, care and safety modern dental equipment, instruments, and radiographic equipment and learn all safety precautions of modern dental machinery, tools instruments and radiographic equipment. Operative dentistry and dental specialties are emphasized as well as office procedures. The students spend much of their time interning in private dental offices practicing and improving classroom learned skills. The class prepares students to take the California State RDA exam.

Employment Opportunities: Employment opportunities for registered dental assistants are expected to be excellent through the 2010. The increase in population, growing awareness of the importance of regular dental care, and the public's increasing ability to pay for care also will contribute to the demand for dental assistants.

• Typing is helpful
• Health related courses or work experience

• Application and interview required

You Can Earn: A Certificate of Proficiency, Registered Dental Assistant Eligibility, X-ray Certification and Coronal Polishing Certificate.

Location: Dental Classroom at Chico ROP Center

Duration: This 2 semester class starts in September and continues through May.  Class meets daily for 6 hours Monday through Friday.
