Chef Prep and Restaurant Occupations

This course will provide skills necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the food service industry.  Training includes food preparation, safety and sanitation, line cook, assistant cook, baker/pasty chef, host/cashier, pantry, wait staff, bus person and caterer.  Students will gain hands-on experience by working on-campus in restaurant/catering actives and in non-paid internships with local restaurants.  Students will prepare resumes, explore college/vocational schools programs and make college visitations.

Special Considerations: Physical stamina is important since most of these workers spend long periods of time on their feet and sometimes carry heavy loads of food and dishes.

You Can Earn: A Certificate of Proficiency and high school credits.

How to Enroll for Chef Prep and Restaurant Occupations:

  • High School Students:  You need to be at least 16 years old and see your counselor or call ROP at 879-7457.

Fees: There is no cost for high school students. .

Location: Fairview High School & Oroville High School

Duration: This two-semester class meets two hours daily Monday through Friday and begins in the fall.
