Networking Technology

This class is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further education and training in the computer networking field. Content standards are based on a task analysis of current industry/occupational standards. Training includes safety, networking, cabling tools, routers, IP addressing and networking standards. Students will be equipped with the skills needed to pass the Net+ exam. Certification testing will be made available through Butte College for Networking Plus.

Employment & Careers:

Employment opportunities for entry-level workers may be found in 

  • Computer Specialist
  • Network and Computer Systems Administrator
  • Network Systems Data Communications Analyst
  • Computer and Information System Manager

 

Areas of Study:
  • Networking terminology, protocols, standards and models
  • Care, maintenance and use of networking software, tools and equipment
  • Local, state and federal safety, building and environmental codes and regulations
  • Networking problem solving techniques
  • Network administrator's role and function
  • Cabling tools and equipment
  • Router programming and standards
  • TCP/IP addressing protocol

You Can Earn: A Certificate of Proficiency, high school and Butte College credits. 

How to Enroll for Networking Technology:

  • High School Students:  You need to be at least 16 years old and see your counselor or call ROP at 879-7457.

Fees: There is no cost for high school students.

Location: Chico High School and Paradise High School 

Duration: A two-semester class meets for one hour daily beginning in the fall.
