Automotive Technology

This class offers students the training necessary to gain entry-level employment in the automotive service industry.  Students develop skills in automotive mechanics and servicing, cooling systems, electrical performance and troubleshooting, engines, brakes, air conditioning and suspensions.  Automotive service internships may be provided for students to further develop their skills.  Graduates of this program will have sufficient background to repair and make adjustments on the various automotive systems using up-to-date equipment and tools.

  • Appropriate use of hand tools

  • Lead-acid storage batteries
  • Chassis and drive-train lubrication
  • Repair, mount, balance and rotate automobile tires
  • Fuel delivery systems
  • Carburetor service
  • Major electrical systems with diagnostic analyzers
  • Braking systems
  • Shop repair order completion
  • Maintenance service manual use
  • Front suspension alignment
  • Engine reconditioning
  • Headlight alignment
  • "Right -to-Know" laws and MSDS use

You Can Earn: A Certificate of Proficiency, high school credits and Butte College credits. 

How to Enroll for Automotive Technology:

  • High School Students:  You need to be at least 16 years old and see your counselor or call ROP at 879-7457.

Fees: There is no cost for high school students.

Location: Gridley High School

Duration: This class meets at Gridley High School two hours daily for two semesters and begins in the fall.
