South County Community School serves students in grades 7-12. 

South County Community School serves the needs of a diverse, high-risk population including students referred by district expulsion, county juvenile probation, SARB and parent request.  Curriculum is aligned to the California State Content Standards. Instruction is designed and intervention provided for the success of all students.  Site level assessments are administered regularly and assessment data is used to revise and re-teach when necessary.

South County Community School serves students in grades 7-12. South County Community School serves the needs of a diverse, high-risk population including students referred by district expulsion, county juvenile probation, SARB and parent request.  Curriculum is aligned to the California State Content Standards. Opportunities for Parental Involvement 

This section provides information about opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities.  
South County Community School encourages parents to be involved, participate in and support the daily instructional program.  The principal and teachers are in regular contact with parents regarding students’ academic and social progress via phone calls, SST’s, parent conferences and progress reports. The Parent Education Liaison at South County plays a key role as the link between SCCS families and the school.  The Parent Project is provided at no cost to North County families in both the Fall and Spring semesters. The School Site Council provides opportunities for students, parents and community members to participate in governance of the school.  The School Site Council also provides a forum in which all stakeholders can brainstorm, develop, and implement strategies and events for more effective parent/community involvement.

II. School Climate 

School Safety Plan 

This section provides information about the school's comprehensive safety plan. 
South County Community School’s safety plan is part of the Butte County Office of Education’s comprehensive Safety, Injury and Illness Prevention Program.  Each school site is reviewed by the Maintenance and Operations Department staff for updated information on the Safety Plan and safety issues in the classroom and on the school site.  Each employee receives mandatory fire safety and fire extinguisher training at the beginning of each school year.  Annual School site inspections ensure facilities and safety compliance.

School Discipline Practices 

This section provides information about the school's efforts to create and maintain a positive learning environment, including the school’s use of disciplinary strategies. 

South County Community School takes a pro-active approach to addressing negative student behaviors.  All teaching and support staff work together to teach positive replacement behaviors using BEST (Building Effective Schools Together) practices which promote a positive environment that is conducive to learning.   SCCS includes on site academic intervention as well as tutoring and individual counseling for students and families.  Our Student Support Advisor facilitates groups addressing tobacco cessation, drug and alcohol use, anger management and conflict resolution skills.  Special Education services and instruction, School-to-Career activities, and county juvenile probation services are also available on campus.  Independent Study, GED preparation, opportunities for concurrent enrollment at Butte Community College and referral to adult education are provided where appropriate. 

SCCS has clearly established policies and procedures to respond to student discipline including behavior intervention referrals, in school suspensions and off campus suspensions.  Because SCCS is comprised of both an Independent Study and site-based daily attendance program, discipline processes will vary.  Behavior policies are posted at school sites and are communicated to students and parents in the initial enrollment appointment and in the annual Student/Parent Handbook.

South County Community School is located at 205 Mira Loma Drive, Suite 20. The facility is a recently built modern facility, which is centrally located in Oroville. The facility including the school grounds, building and restrooms are clean and well maintained.
