The Special Education department provides educational
services to individuals’ ages 0 to 22 years of age who have
various forms of disabilities. Our program covers a range of
services in a variety of settings. We operate Mesa Vista
School, as well as individual classrooms on satellite sites. Many
of our programs are located on regular education campuses. Programs and
services include:
DIS Services: The following services are provided to eligible students who have active IEP’s. Staff credentialed in the appropriate area of specialty provides the services.
Resource Specialist Program Instructional services are provided to eligible students with learning disabilities who require small group or individual instruction in our Court and Community Programs and Charter Schools operated by the BCOE. Severely Disabled Program A full continuum of services (excluding preschool) includes intensive instruction and services for students with moderate to severe developmental delays. Curriculum and instruction emphasize skill acquisition in functional academics, vocational, community, leisure, self-help, social and behavioral. Emotional Disturbed Program A Day Treatment Program is offered for students kindergarten through twelfth grades. This program is operated in conjunction with Butte County Behavioral Health. Classrooms are staffed with a credentialed teacher and licensed therapeutic staff. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program The program for infants and school age children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing includes direct academic instruction, consultation, language remediation, auditory training, sign language, total communication, monitoring of hearing aides, maintenance of amplification equipment, interpreter services, and collaboration with other professionals and families. Early Education, Infant and Toddler
Program This program provides services to eligible children
birth to 36 months. The educational team of teachers,
psychologists, and speech therapists work with the families to
provide instruction and related services. The following services
are provided; assessment and direct instruction, collaboration
and support for families, speech therapy, occupational therapy, development of an IFSP
(Individual Family Service Plan) and transition planning.
