Damian Maldonado leads this cross-regional academy which will be offered in three cohorts. Participants enroll in the cohort that fits their schedule and are expected to take all modules and attend the four coaching sessions in order to graduate from the academy.
About D.A.S.L:
The purpose of the D.A.S.L. Academy is to deepen participants' leadership knowledge and skills in order to help them be more effective in their positions. This multi-day institute is for site coordinators, site facilitators, and expanded learning leaders who want to enhance their effectiveness or assume greater responsibilities in their programs and districts.
Using the leadership competency model as the core foundation, the goals for this institute are to enhance:

Participants’ leadership style and behavioral skills as they learn to lead themselves,

Flexibility skills for effective leadership as they learn to lead others, and
-
Program quality and improve outcomes as they learn to lead their programs.
Institute Format:
The online leadership academy consists of one orientation video, four 60 min online modules & four 90 min coaching video sessions to support participants in transfer of learning, personal development and accountability for changing limiting leadership behaviors. In order to provide an ideal interactive learning environment each cohort will consist of no more than 30 participants. Participants will go through a variety of learning methods, including self-paced lectures, case studies, discussion, exercises, self-assessments and videos.

Effective leadership first starts with learning and understanding your own leadership style and preferences. Studies show that effective leaders clearly understand their own behavioral styles, abilities and areas for improvement. This session will offer participants an opportunity to gain greater insight into their own leadership effectiveness through a self-assessment.
Participants will learn to:
- Accept your role and recognize the different value, new duties and changes in relationships that exist as a result of being in a leadership role.
- Identify your why/vision of being in a leadership position.
- Understand the importance of emotional intelligence in setting a high performing work culture.

Successful leaders recognize the importance of creating a high performing organization and program. They also are effective at dealing with ongoing continuous quality improvement and using frameworks to drive the highest levels of quality programming for their program, staff and students.
Participants will learn to:
- Set clear vision, mission and values to create a culture of high performance.
- Apply their leadership skills to implement a continuous quality improvement cycle.
- Use the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning as a tool for meeting high programmatic standards.

Effective leaders understand that no one size fits all when managing individuals. They must consistently facilitate an individual's competence and motivation factors that impact a staff members ability to effectively carry out their assigned tasks.
Participants will learn to:
- Assess your own leadership style and the impact it has on others.
- Diagnose staff development levels on a variety of goals/tasks.
- Use four styles of leadership to positively impact others' behaviors and get the desired results.

This last session will focus on ensuring participants apply the three leadership competencies understand how it leads to leadership excellence. They will also identify personal development goals for their own continued leadership journey.
Participants will learn to:
- Apply the skills and tools from the previous three sessions.
- Identify their own next steps in their personal leadership journey.
- Celebrate their own success.
