ABOUT

The Butte County Office of Education coordinates the county elementary Spelling Bee for grade 4-6 students and the Butte county junior high competition Spelling Bee for students in grades 7-9. Butte County Spelling Bees give students the opportunity to demonstrate their spelling ability, think on their feet, and speak before an audience.
ELEMENTARY SPELLING BEE (GRADES 4-6)

ELEMENTARY SPELLING BEE (GRADES 4-6)

Grade 4-6 students participate in school competitions.  The top spellers from each school advances to the Butte County Elementary Spelling Bee. Each school may send (2) participants to compete at the Butte County Elementary Spelling Bee.  The Elementary County Competition is an oral contest.  District staff, school staff and the contestant's family are welcome to attend.  All County Spelling Bee participants will receive a Spelling Bee medallion for their participation. First and second place County winners will be awarded a trophy. The top two spellers in the county event advance to the California State Elementary Spelling Bee Championship held on May 14th in San Joaquin, Stockton.

JUNIOR HIGH SPELLING BEE (GRADES 7-9)

JUNIOR HIGH SPELLING BEE (GRADES 7-9)

Grade 7-9 students participate in school competitions. The top speller from each school advances to the Butte County Junior High Spelling Bee. Each school may send (2) participants to compete at County Jr. High Bee. The Jr. High County Competition is a written contest. District staff, school staff and the contestant's family are welcome to attend. All County Spelling Bee participants will receive a Spelling Bee medallion for their participation. First and second place County winners will be awarded a trophy.

This competition will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at:

San Joaquin County Office of Education
Wentworth Education Center
2707 Transworld Drive, Stockton, 95206.

On the day of the event, please arrive no later than 1:45 p.m. for check-in. The welcome
and introduction of spellers will begin at 2:30 p.m. It is expected that the competition will
be over around 5:00 p.m. At the end of the competition, all spellers will be invited back
to their seats for the awards ceremony. All competitors will receive a participation medal
and certificate.

January 14th- SCHOOL REGISTRATION FORM DUE
Online registration must be completed by schools who intend to participate in the Butte County Spelling Bee
 
March 4, 2022 -  STUDENT REGISTRATION FORM DUE
Online Registration with student information must be received by March 4th by participating schools.  You must have each participant's parent complete a Parent Authorization Form and email the form to Mary Ellen Garrahy.  School administrators will determine which students advance to the Butte County Spelling Bee.
