Oroville, CA -- California Assemblyman James Gallagher listened to students, teachers, staff and administrators from BCOE schools during a visit to BCOE on July 18. After an introduction by BCOE Superintendent, Tim Taylor, Assemblyman Gallagher spoke to the group, followed by Butte County Teacher of the Year, Jona O'Shea. For the rest of the afternoon, Gallagher listened to administrators, staff and students from Butte County school districts, charter schools and BCOE share some challenges and possible solutions for him to take back to Sacramento. Issues included special education funding, career and technical education, local employment needs, LCFF in the North State and facilities funding. The group also got an eye-opening introduction to esports, presented by BCOE's esports startup team.
Many thanks to Assemblyman Gallagher for strong, education support in Sacramento and for taking time to meet with us here in Butte County.
