OROVILLE-CA The interagency Child Care Task Force invites child care providers in Butte County to a town hall meeting Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) Center on 545 Vallombrosa Avenue in Chico, CA.
The Child Care Task Force is hosting this meeting to provide information, cooperation, and support for providers who are committed to caring for children in Butte County because the Camp Fire displaced tens of thousands of people and many of the support systems that helped families care for children.
Doors open at 5:30 for child care provider networking and a 6:00 information session. A panel of invited representatives from Butte County Fire Marshal, CA Department of Education, Community Care Licensing (CCL), and Valley Oak Children’s Services will discuss child care needs, obstacles to providing services, steps to re-open or expand facilities, and opportunities for CCL licensing waivers.
There were at least 22 licensed child care facilities, 4 after school programs, and other licensed-exempt child care facilities destroyed or closed due to the camp fire. Combined, they provided care for over 1,000 children ages 0-5 and school age children outside of school hours.
A community survey to assess child care needs has been circulated by the Child Care Task Force to employers and families. Parents are invited to complete this survey by January 25, 2019. Parents can take the survey online by visiting https://tinyurl.com/ycha2th4.
