During both years of the Butte County Office of Education Teacher Induction Program, participating teachers are assigned a highly qualified mentor within the first thirty days of the participant’s enrollment in the induction program. Collaboratively, the mentor and the participating teacher complete the locally designed program based on the Individualized Learning Plans and document evidence of professional growth and movement toward mastery of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. Although it is the participating teacher’s responsibility to complete the Individualized Learning Plan, and document sufficient evidence during both years of the induction program, periodic reviews of the Individualized Learning Plan by the mentor and induction staff ensures timelines are met and/or adjustments can be made based upon the individual participating teachers’ needs.

The Individualized Learning Plan is drafted from the results of administrative input, mentor collaboration, and individual candidate interests/goals and may reflect preliminary program feedback. The Individualized Learning Plan allows the program to be flexible and support candidates individual and diverse needs. Through the use of modeling, guided reflection on practice, and feedback on classroom instruction, the mentor guides the participating teacher’s growth by connecting them with resources needed to support their journey along the continuum and growth with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

The participating teacher will submit his or her evidence at the end of each year. It will be checked for professional growth and movement toward mastery of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession by program staff. A rubric and feedback will be returned to the participating teacher. Those participants that do not complete all requirements will be provided with additional support to finish. Over the course of the two years, the program provides the candidate with an opportunity to interact with each of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP).
