The Butte County Office of Education coordinates the Elementary Spelling Bee for grade 4-6 students and the Junior High Spelling Bee for students in grades 7-9. Butte County Spelling Bee gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their spelling ability, think on their feet, and speak before an audience. 

Registration should be completed online. Participating schools must complete the online school registration form by the deadline to be included in the event. The registration fee for the Elementary School Bee is $100.00 per school. The registration fee for the Junior High Spelling Bee is $150.00 per school. Schools may send up to 2 qualifying students to each spelling bee. The online student registration form must be completed by the participating school's Spelling Bee Coordinator by the deadline.

The 1st and 2nd place winners from each Butte County Spelling Bee will advance to the California Spelling Bee which will be held in late spring. More information can be found on the California State Spelling Bee Website.

Online Registration with student information must be received by February 28, 2025 by participating schools.  Spelling Bee Coordinators must collect parent authorization forms and email to Mary Ellen Garrahy.  School administrators will determine which students advance to the Butte County Spelling Bee.
